LOS ANGELES – The Lions have signed 6'11 standout Jevon Porter for the 2024-25 season following his selection to the West Coast Conference Honorable Mention Team. Porter played two seasons at Pepperdine under current LMU assistant coach
Lorenzo Romar.
"Jevon is an elite talent with a heart of gold," said Head Coach
Stan Johnson. "There is no ceiling for how good he will be. His skill set is off the charts and his character is above reproach. His size and shooting at the forward spot are very unique and it's what separates him from a lot of players around the country. He's been in the WCC, which I believe will allow him to get off to a fast start here at LMU. I love how strong his faith is and his willingness to share it with others."
Porter is coming off a season where he improved his scoring to 16.2 points per game with the Waves. Over his two years of college basketball, Porter has averaged 13.8 points per game, 6.7 rebounds per game, and nearly a block and steal per game while shooting 45.5 percent from the field. In his first season in the conference, Porter was named to the All-WCC Freshman Team.
Prior to college, Porter averaged 23.9 points and 13.2 rebounds as a senior at Father Tolton Catholic High School, located in Columbia, Mo. and was named Class 4 All-State and to the Central Missouri All-District first team. He Was the AAA Conference Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year and helped team finish as state runner-up in 2022 As a junior, Porter averaged 22.4 points and 11.5 rebounds and was all-state and the Boone County Player of the Year.
Porter's older brother Michael Jr. is currently in the NBA with the Denver Nuggets. Jevon Porter played club for MPJElite, a program created by his older brother Michael Jr.
"I chose LMU because of the coaching staff's belief in me," said Porter. "I really believe we're going to shock a lot of people and make something special happen this year."
