STOCKTON, Calif. –
Brendan Bobo slugged his second grand slam of the season,
Jacob Hughes recorded his first save and the Lions survived a late rally in a 13-11 victory against Pacific on Sunday afternoon in Stockton, Calif.
Â
The Lions got the scoring going early with a pair of runs in the first due to some poor defense from the Tigers.
Khadim Diaw scored easily when Bobo stole second in the first and the throw to third went awry. Bobo advanced to third on the play and then scored on a wild pitch.
Â
The Lions loaded the bases in the third and saw Bobo easily clear the left field fence with a towering blast. It was his second grand slam of the season after slugging one against the Gauchos two weeks prior.
Â
Diaw and the Lions pulled off one of the most exciting plays in the game in the fourth. With
Daalen Adderley on third, Diaw squared around to bunt and executed a perfect two-out squeeze play as Adderley scored and the throw to first was too late.
Â
The Lions got five more in the fifth, thanks to a pair of hit batters and a pair of sacrifice flies, with a Diaw RBI single sprinkled in for good measure.
Â
The Tigers scored eight in the bottom of the fifth to close the gap.
Â
Diaw scored one more run on a wild pitch in the eight to mark the final run for the lions.
Â
The Tigers go three more in the bottom of the ninth to make it close. With runners on first and third,
Jacob Hughes got a pair of outs, including an emphatic strikeout to end the game and send the Lions home with a series win.
Â
The Lions face UC Santa Barbara at home on Tuesday evening before hosting Portland in WCC play in the upcoming weekend.
