LOS ANGELES – Following his freshman season at UCLA, Slovenian Guard Jan Vide has signed with LMU men's basketball ahead of the 2024-25 season.
"Jan was one of the most sought-after international players a year ago," said Head Coach
Stan Johnson. "His character and skill set are both off the charts. His ability to play downhill and make others better will be something that improves our entire program. I love how he competes and how hungry he is right now. He is someone our guys are going to enjoy playing with. I'm thankful to have him here."
The 6-6 guard played in 24 games as a true freshman for the Bruins. The MVP of the 2023 Adidas Next Generation Tournament in Kaunas, Lithuania averaged 19.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game at the Adidas Next Generation Tournament (ANGT) the summer before arriving to Westwood.
Prior to college, Vide averaged 20.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game for Slovenia at the 2022 U17 FIBA World Cup (in Malaga, Spain). He also competed at the 2021 FIBA U16 Challengers event and averaged 27.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. Slovenia registered a 4-1 overall record at the FIBA U16 Challengers competition.
"I have decided to make a big step in my career to become the best possible version of the athlete and the person, therefore I chose to join LMU," said Vide. "I believe in the power of its community to elevate my game and academic pursuits to unprecedented levels. I can't wait to shine on and off the court with my team, knowing we are surrounded by supportive professionals that embrace both personal and team success. I know I am not just joining a team, I am becoming part of a legacy of determination and achievement by committing LMU and I am ready for it. Go Lions!"
