SAN DIEGO – The Lions took down the San Diego Toreros with the score of 6-3 on Sunday afternoon.
The game started off with a stellar pitching display from
Jenna Perez, who kept the Toreros scoreless for the first two innings. However, in the third inning, the Toreros broke through with a double to left-center, followed by another run from a flyout to left-center, taking a 2-0 lead.
The game remained deadlocked until the sixth inning when the Lions started to take charge.
Izzy Jamgotchian kickstarted the momentum with a single to right field, with
Cristina Jones stepping in to pinch run.
Mika Chong then doubled to center field, bringing Jones home and tying the game 2-2. Sakora Harvevell followed suit with another double to center field, scoring Chong and leveling the score.
Adele Braun's walk and
Kealani Caster being hit by a pitch loaded the bases for LMU, setting the stage for
Hayley Olivas to deliver a clutch single up the middle, bringing in two RBIs and putting the Lions ahead 4-2.
San Diego managed to score another run in the bottom of the sixth but still trailed by one. The Lions extended their lead in the seventh inning when
Adele Braun grounded out to shortstop, allowing Jamgotchian to score and securing the win 6-3 for LMU.
Jamgotchian and Chong led the Lions with three hits each, while Chong and Olivas led with two RBIs apiece.Braun also led both teams with 11 putouts.
The Lions' next game is scheduled for April 19th against the Santa Clara Broncos at Smith Field, beginning at 5 PM.
