LOS ANGELES – The Lions dominated in Friday evening's softball against Santa Clara, shutting out the Broncos with an impressive 9-0 victory in just five innings.
Jenna Perez delivered a stellar performance on the mound, pitching a no-hitter and keeping the Broncos scoreless throughout the game.
In the second inning, the Lions sparked their offensive onslaught with hits from
Adele Braun,
Val Pero, and
Hayley Olivas, resulting in the game's first run as Braun crossed home plate.
The third inning saw the Lions ramp up their attack even further.
Arianna Jaurequi kicked things off with a single, followed by
Mika Chong reaching base on a fielder's choice. Then,
Izzy Jamgotchian blasted a powerful homer, driving in two runs and extending the Lions' lead to 3-0. The momentum continued as Olivas singled, bringing Braun and
Sakora Harvell home.
Despite Santa Clara switching pitchers, the Lions remained relentless. Jaurequi added two more RBIs with another single, while
Lauryn Carter stole home, pushing the lead to eight runs. The inning concluded with Chong's single, scoring Jaurequi and securing the Lions commanding 9-0 win.
The series will continue tomorrow at 1 PM at Smith Field.
