Lions Stumble in Doubleheader Against Toreros

SAN DIEGO, CA – On Saturday afternoon, the Lions came up short in both games against the San Diego Toreros, losing 5-3 in the first match and 3-1 in the second.

Game 1:

The softball game kicked off with a burst of energy as Lauryn Carter drew a walk and Arianna Jaurequi reached on a fielder's choice. With two Lions on base, Izzy Jamgotchian hit a pop fly to right field, resulting in Carter scoring the first run. The Toreros responded swiftly in the bottom of the inning, tallying two runs to take a 2-1 lead.

In the third inning, Carter delivered another hit, this time a single up the middle. She then stole second base and advanced to third on a throwing error. Mika Chong capitalized on a fielding error to bring Carter home, knotting the score.

Savannah Hooks took over pitching duties for Lindsay O'Dell in an effort to halt San Diego's momentum, but the Toreros managed to score two more runs with timely hits down the left field line, stretching their lead to 4-2. San Diego added another run in the fourth inning to extend their lead.

In the sixth inning, Jamgotchian drew a walk and was substituted by pinch runner Madalie Gomez. Shortly after, Jasmine Sofowora smashed a double to right center, allowing Gomez to score. Despite narrowing the gap to 5-3, the Lions couldn't muster any more runs and ultimately fell short, losing 5-3.

Game 2:

In the early stages of the game, the Toreros secured a 2-0 lead against the Lions in the opening inning. Although Sofowora and Adele Braun both managed hits in the second inning, the Lions couldn't convert them into runs. Fortunately for LMU, Hooks pitching didn't lead to any hits or runs at the bottom of the inning.

It wasn't until the fourth inning that the Lions managed to get on the scoreboard, courtesy of a run by Sakora Harvell due to a dropped fly ball by San Diego. Despite the Lions' defense effectively shutting down the Toreros for the rest of the game, they couldn't muster any runs themselves, resulting in a 3-1 victory for the Toreros.

The Lions and Toreros series will end tomorrow at 1PM in San Diego, CA.
