LAS VEGAS – The Lions wrapped up their season on Saturday afternoon with a 78-51 loss against the Portland Pilots, signaling the conclusion of their WCC Championship journey.
Three Lions players managed to achieve double-digit scores.
Nicole Rodriguez showcased another stellar performance, contributing 14 points, while
Alexis Mark added 14 points along with five rebounds.
Amaya Oliver finished the game with 10 points and five rebounds.
The Pilots took an early lead with a 5-0 run, but the Lions managed to keep the game competitive. With 3:48 left in the first quarter, a 5-0 run by the Lions briefly put them ahead by two at 15-13. However, the Pilots secured the last bucket of the quarter, leading 19-16.
Portland extended their lead to double digits in the second quarter, scoring the first nine points. LMU struggled offensively, posting only 11 points compared to Portland's 22. Oliver and
Da'Ja Hamilton closed the half with the last two baskets, narrowing the Lions' deficit to 14, trailing 41-27.
In the third quarter, the Lions struggled to get a basket, making only 3 of 10 field goals and failing to land any three-pointers. In contrast, Portland capitalized with three successful three-pointers and a 53.3% field goal percentage.
Sydney Gandy and Hamilton contributed the last four points of the quarter, but the Lions still faced a sizable 24-point deficit, with Portland leading 61-37.
Even though the Lions were down big in the fourth, they didn't give up. Mark displayed an impressive performance, scoring nine points with a flawless 4-4 record from the field and 1-1 from the line. Unfortunately, the deficit was too big for the Lions, and Portland came out victorious with a final score of 78-51.
