PALO ALTO, CA – The Lions fell short to No. 9 Stanford Cardinals, 5-0, Friday evening, snapping their winning streak.
Stanford took an early lead in the second inning, securing the first run with a double and an RBI. Both
Jenna Perez and Stanford's Canady displayed strong pitching in the third inning, denying any runs, hits, or errors.
Despite the effort, the Lions couldn't break through in the top of the inning, as the Cardinals struck out the first three Lions. At the bottom, Stanford extended their lead with another double, scoring a run. A subsequent wild pitch allowed the Cardinals to advance, bringing the score to 3-0.
In the fifth inning,
Lauryn Carter's hit and double gave the Lions hope, but they couldn't capitalize, ending the inning without scoring.
Lindsay O'Dell took over for Perez in the bottom of the fifth, but the Cardinals managed to score two more runs, securing a 5-0 lead. The Lions failed to make a comeback, and the game ended with the Cardinals emerging victorious.
Izzy Jamgotchian recorded 10 putouts for the Lions, while
Hayley Olivas led with three assists.
The Lions will face North Dakota State in their next game tomorrow at 10 am in San Jose, CA.
