FRESNO, CA – The Lions played a doubleheader against the Fresno State Bulldogs Saturday afternoon and beat them, 7-4, in the first game and then lost, 4-3, in the second.
Game 1:
The Lions burst out of the gates, seizing an early lead by scoring a run in the opening inning, courtesy of Ariana Jaurequi's single through the left side that brought
Lauryn Carter home.
In the second inning,
Jasmine Sofowora's single to right center, followed by a stolen base, set the stage for
Val Pero's double, bringing Sofowora across home plate. The Lions continued their offensive onslaught with two more runs in the inning, extending their lead over the Bulldogs to 5-0.
Maintaining their momentum in the fourth inning, the Lions added another run when
Hayley Olivas crossed the plate. However, Fresno State managed to put two runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning, narrowing the deficit to 5-2.
Despite a pitching change by the Bulldogs in the sixth inning to halt the Lions progress, LMU remained relentless.
