Bulldogs Walkoff Homer Spoils Baqueiro's Four RBIs

SPOKANE, Wash. - Diego Baqueiro drove in four runs but the LMU baseball team fell to Gonzaga 7-6 on Saturday afternoon in Spokane, Wash.

The Lions fell behind early before starter Ryan Towers buckled down and ended up throwing six very solid innings. He allowed only a pair of runs and struck out four. He did get a nifty double play to end the fourth inning. With one out and a runner on first, Brendan Bobo snagged a liner right on top of the first base bag before doubling off the runner to end the frame.

Baqueiro was the catalyst for the Lions all afternoon. The senior slugger homered for the second consecutive game with a two-run blast in the top of the fifth. It knotted the score and gave the Lions some much-needed momentum heading into the later innings.

Grant Weiss would give the Lions a lead in the seventh inning after getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

The Bulldogs would tie the game in the bottom half.

Baqueiro gave LMU another lead with a clutch two-out single in the eighth as well. With the bases loaded once again, Baqueiro lined a single into center field to score Christian Dicochea and Robbie Ayers easily.

Gonzaga once again equalized in the bottom half.

The Lions would go ahead in the top of the ninth off the bat of Devan Ornelas. Weiss led off the inning with a single to center. Trey Becker pinch ran for Weiss and advanced to second on a balk and to third on a wild pitch. With the infield drawn in, Ornelas pulled a ground ball inside the first base bag for an RBI single and to give LMU a one-run lead heading into the bottom of the ninth.

The Bulldogs would hit a two-run homer to end the game in the bottom half.

LMU gets one more chance against the Bulldogs on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. (PT).
