LOS ANGELES – LMU women's water polo improved their record to 10-2 on Friday night at home with a 16-8 win over CSUN.
 
The Lions scored the game's first three goals and never looked back. Sophie Kadifa, Ruth Arino Ruiz, and Julia Erwin gave the Lions a 3-0 lead. After CSUN scored, Mikayla Lopez scored a pair of goals to increase the lead to 5-1. The Matadors closed the quarter with a final minute score to make it a 5-2 game after the opening eight minutes.
 
LMU extended the lead to start the second period, as Arino Ruiz scored again, Nankervis went back-to-back, and Anna Tarantino made it a 9-3 game with less than two minutes showing in the half. After the Matadors scored their lone goal of the quarter, Noa Sasover added one back with 19 seconds on the clock to give LMU a 10-3 halftime advantage.
 
The lead grew to double-digits to start the second half. Arino Ruiz scored her third of the game, and Tarantino added an extra two goals. After CSUN added a few back, Taylor Enright got on the board with a goal in the final two minutes.
 
Each team scored twice in the final quarter. Tessa Matson and Arino Ruiz made it a 16-6 game before the Matadors scored twice late.
 
LMU used three different goalkeepers in the win. Inbar Geva made two saves in the first quarter, Madison Davis made three saves in the second quarter, and Talia Herbermann closed out the game with three second half saves.
 
The Lions will be on the road Feb. 16 at UC San Diego before returning to Burns Aquatics Center for two on Sunday, Feb. 18.
