HONOLULU. HI – The Lions defeated the Portland State Viking in the first game of their Honolulu tournament, 8-1.
 
The Lions took an early lead as Jasmine Sofowora's center-field single brought Adele Braun and Arianna Jaurequi home. The Vikings also put a run on the board in the first inning through advancement from a walk.
 
Jenna Perez delivered a solid pitching performance in the second and third innings, preventing any runs or hits from the Vikings.
 
In the fourth inning, LMU extended their lead as Avery Francis singled, allowing Lauyrn Carter to score. Subsequently, an unearned run was added when Jaurequi's flyout to center field enabled Hayley Olivas to cross home plate, giving the Lions a 4-1 advantage.
 
The turning point in the game occurred during the seventh inning for the Lions, as Jaurequi initiated with a solo home run, collecting an RBI. Later on, Carter followed suit by hitting a home run, securing three RBIs.
 
Although the Vikings managed one hit in the bottom of the seventh, it had no impact on the outcome. The Lions came out with the victory, 8-1.
 
The Lions finished with a fielding percentage of .931.
 
The Lions will continue to play in Honolulu, HI, tomorrow as they take on Tennessee State and the University of Hawaii.
