SANTA CLARA, CA – LMU took a tough loss to the Santa Clara Broncos, 86-45, Thursday night in their last road game of the regular season.
Alexis Mark led the Lion pack with 19 points and also had five rebounds.
The game started with a three-pointer from
Nicole Rodriguez, setting the tone. However, the Lions faced difficulties finding the basket as the Broncos went on an 11-0 run, establishing an eight-point lead.
Soufia Inoussa and Mark contributed back-to-back baskets, narrowing the gap to four for LMU. Unfortunately, SCU secured the final four points, concluding the quarter with a 17-9 lead.
The Broncos continued to dominate in the second quarter, shooting 56.3 percent from the field and 55.6 from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, the Lions were 3-10 for the quarter. SCU led 43-18 going into the half.
In the third quarter, the Lions scored 12 points with contributions from
Amaya Oliver,
Sydney Gandy,
Da'Ja Hamilton,
Cynthia Ezeja, and Mark, but they would still trail by 30-plus points by the end of the quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the standout moment occurred when Mark contributed 10 points to the Lions score. She was 2-3 from the field and a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line. However, the Lions struggled as a team, going 3-13, while the Broncos outperformed by shooting 10-15 from the field. Ultimately, the Broncos secured the victory with a final score of 86-45.
The Lions next game is Saturday, Mar. 2, at 2 pm as they take on the Portland Pilots for their Senior Day game.
