LOS ANGELES – The Lions fall short in both of their Sunday matches, falling to the Maryland Terrapins 8-1 and the No. 5 Texas Longhorns 10-2.
Game 1
Both
Jenna Perez and Maryland's Wyche delivered strong performances in the first inning, concluding with zero hits, runs, and errors.
The gap between the two teams widened in the top of the second inning. With three Terrapins on base, Perez issued a walk, allowing Maryland to score a run. In the ensuing play, the Terrapins hit a grand slam, bringing four players home and establishing a 5-0 lead.
Perez took a break, and
Alessandra Samperio entered as the pitching reliever. The following three innings saw no significant movement, thanks to the impressive defense from both teams. It wasn't until the bottom of the sixth that
Adele Braun smashed a solo home run on her first hit, earning the Lions their second run.
Despite LMU's determined effort, the Terrapins secured three more runs in the seventh inning, ultimately clinching the victory with a final score of 8-2.
Game 2
Lindsay O'Dell had an impressive start, navigating the first inning without conceding any runs. Although she allowed one run in the second inning, her overall pitching performance remained outstanding.
In the bottom of the second inning, the Lions responded to the Longhorns' energy, as
Lauryn Carter hit a home run to left center, equalizing the score at 1-1. The Lions' defense held on until the fourth inning.
In the fourth inning, the Longhorns doubled and added another run, prompting a pitching change to
Savannah Hooks. Even with the change, Texas continued to dominate, scoring six more runs. The Lions made another pitching switch to
Jessica Hubbard.
In the bottom of the fourth,
Lauryn Carter played a key role again, singling to center field and putting the Lions on base. Two batters later, Haley Olivas singled to shortstop, advancing Carter. LMU secured their final run of the game due to an error by the Longhorns, making the score 8-2. Texas added one more run in the sixth inning, ultimately winning the game 10-2.
