Jamgotchian, Jaurequi Team Up for Lions First Win

LOS ANGELES – Arianna Jaurequi laced a single to right field to give the Lions their first victory of the season with a 4-3 win over Maryland on Saturday afternoon at Smith Field.

The Lions got a superb start out of Savannah Hooks to keep them in the game. The junior was one out from a complete game, only allowing a single run in regulation before allowing a pair in the eighth inning. She struck out six.

The Lions ended the game in very exciting fashion. Avery Francis reached on a fielder's choice and would be the beginning of the rally for the Lions. She had a pair of hits on the day. Jasmine Sofowora and Mika Chong to load the bases for Izzy Jamgotchian. Jamgotchian, who was named to the preseason all-WCC team, hit a ball into right field that just eluded the right fielder to drive in a pair.

Jaurequi would be the hero shortly thereafter and drill a liner between the first and second basemen to send Chong home and the Lions into a frenzy.

The Lions got their first victory of the season after a tough loss to No. 11 Oklahoma State on Friday afternoon. Jenna Perez allowed a single run as the Lions fell 1-0.

Lindsay O'Dell got the victory for the Lions after getting the final out in the eighth.

The Lions have a number of high-profile matchups in the coming weeks, beginning with No. 5 Texas on Sunday, followed by Oregon and Texas A & M.
