Lions Show Grit in Fourth Quarter but Fall to Dons

LOS ANGELES – The LMU Lions were defeated by the San Francisco Dons, 85-73, on Saturday afternoon.

Naudia Evans led the Lions with an impressive 25-point performance, scoring 20 points in the first half. Evans shot 8-15 from the field and 5-10 from three-point range, while also contributing four rebounds, seven assists, and three steals.

Carly Heidger added 14 points, going 5-8 from the field and 3-5 from beyond the arc, and led the team with six rebounds. Brandi Williams contributed 12 points, five rebounds, and one assist, while Maya Hernandez finished in double digits with 10 points, three rebounds, and two assists.

The Lions started strong in the first quarter, shooting an impressive 85.7% (6-7) from three-point range and 8-13 from the field. Evans shined in the opening period, scoring 11 points on a perfect 4-4 from the field and 3-3 from three. LMU ended the quarter with a 22-16 lead despite a late three by USF.

The second quarter saw the Dons shift the momentum with a 16-0 run that put them ahead by 13. USF outscored the Lions 30-13 in the period and led 46-35 at halftime.

After the break, USF extended its dominance, opening the third quarter with four quick points. The Dons shot 56.3% in the quarter compared to LMU's 41.7%, outscoring the Lions 26-12 and leading 72-47 heading into the fourth.

The Lions showed resilience in the final period, overcoming a 25-point deficit to outscore the Dons 26-13 while shooting 52.9% (9-17) from the field. Heidger delivered 10 points in the quarter, including three clutch threes, and LMU went on a 13-0 run to narrow the gap to 10 points with just 26 seconds left. However, time ran out before they could complete the comeback.

The Lions will look to bounce back on Jan. 2 when they take on the Oregon State Beavers at 6 PM in Corvallis, OR.
