LOS ANGELES – The Lions took down the Bethesda Lion Angeles, 101-43, Saturday afternoon in Gersten Pavilion
The Lions 101-point output was their highest in regulation in recent memory, fueled by efficient shooting at 52.2 percent (37-71) from the field.
Maya Hernandez led the charge, who notched a game-high double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds, showcasing her versatility on both ends of the floor.
Ali'a Matavao also recorded a double-double with 17 points and 12 boards, while freshman
Allison Clarke and graduate transfer
Brandi Williams chipped in with 19 points apiece.
Naudia Evans was a standout facilitator, dishing out 10 assists to keep the offense flowing smoothly.
The Lions set the tone early, racking up 27 points in the first quarter and maintaining their offensive rhythm in the second quarter by shooting 50 percent (4-8) from three-point range. Clarke had a breakout performance in the second quarter, scoring 11 of her 19 points. LMU was also solid at the free-throw line, converting 72.7 percent of their attempts. By halftime, they led Bethesda 57-29.
LMU came out strong after the break with an 8-0 run, quickly extending their lead to 36 points. Their most efficient quarter came in the third, shooting an impressive 71.4 percent from the field and 60 percent from beyond the arc. The Lions' defense was stifling, limiting Bethesda to just nine shot attempts and zero field goals in the quarter, with Bethesda's only points coming from the free-throw line. By the end of the third, LMU held a commanding 81-34 advantage.
In the final quarter, LMU maintained their momentum to seal the victory with a 55-point margin, closing out at 101-43.
The Lions will next face the South Dakota Coyotes on Nov. 13 at 6 PM in Vermillion, SD.
