LOS ANGELES – LMU men's water polo played their first West Coast Conference game of the regular season on Saturday afternoon. The #17 Lions fell to #13 San Jose State, 14-10, at Burns Aquatics Center.
 
San Jose State opened the scoring with a penalty goal at the 3:33 mark of the first. Senior Baptiste Oliveri evened the game at 1-1 with just over a minute and a half to play in the first. The Spartans added a go-ahead goal with 15 seconds to play in the opening period.
 
After the visitors went up 3-1 to begin the second quarter, Caden Carpenter cut the deficit in half before intermission.
 
Richie Rimlinger tied the game at 3-3 on the first possession of the second half. After another penalty pushed the Spartans back on top, Rimlinger evened the score at 4-4 when the Lions got the ball back. San Jose State scored the next two before Rimlinger scored his third of the period to put an end to the run. The Spartans closed out the third with the final three goals to take a 9-5 lead into the fourth.
 
Abel Romero Corbalan opened the final period with a goal 30 seconds into play. After San Jose State answered back, Carpenter made it a three-goal difference again. The back-and-fourth scoring continued for all 10 goals in the fourth. After falling behind by four on three more occasions, Romero Corbalan brought the Lions back to a three-goal game twice and Rimlinger did it once.
 
Stelios Dalmaras made seven saves in the cage for LMU.

The Lions will close out the regular season at home on Thursday night against Long Beach State under the lights.
