LOS ANGELES – The regular season is over for the LMU men's water polo game. The #19 Lions dropped the final game of non-conference play, 18-7, to #12 Long Beach State.
The Beach jumped ahead 4-0 before
Richie Rimlinger put the Lions in the scoring column.
Long Beach State expanded their lead to 8-1 before
Josiah Yeager put an end to the run. The visitors took a 9-2 lead into intermission.
After LMU allowed the first two goals of the second half,
Abel Romero Corbalan scored just before the midway point of the period. Long Beach State outscored the Lions, 5-1, for the second-straight period to hold a 14-3 advantage entering the final quarter.
Romero Corbalan opened the fourth with penalty goals on LMU's first two possessions to bring the score to single digits.
Caden Carpenter made it a 14-6 game with 5:32 remaining for LMU's third consecutive goal. The Beach responded with the next four goals to go back up by a dozen. Romero Corbalan scored his fourth of the night in the game's final minute.
Stelios Dalmaras made five saves in the first half of play and
Finn Friedland matched that performance with five saves of his own in the second half.
The Lions will look to shock the West Coast Conference as the team heads to the WCC Championships next weekend hosted by the University of the Pacific. LMU will play the 10:00 AM game on November 22
nd, with the opponent still to be determined.
