LOS ANGELES – Despite trailing by four goals in the second half, #17 LMU men's water polo pulled within one goal late before running out of time against #7 Pepperdine. The Waves took the game, 12-10.

After Pepperdine opened the game with a goal,
Josiah Yeager evened the score at 1-1. Pepperdine again took a brief lead before
Baptiste Oliveri was able to tie the score at 2-2 with 1:08 left in the third quarter.

The Waves scored the first four goals of the second quarter until
Richie Rimlinger and
Abel Romero Corbalan ended the run with back-to-back goals. The visitors scored with 13 seconds left in the half to hold a 7-4 lead at intermission.

Pepperdine doubled up the Lions at 8-4 before the Lions rallied for three unanswered goals off the shots of Roman Soroyan,
Max Diaz, and
Richie Rimlinger.

With the score 8-7 entering the fourth quarter, Pepperdine scored on a powerplay to double their lead in the opening minute. Romero Corbalan was quick to respond and pull the Lions back within one on a 6-on-5 on the next possession. Pepperdine scored the next two goals to push ahead 11-8 with 5:50 to play. The Lions did not back off, as Oliveri converted a penalty and Romero Corbalan scored at even-strength to pull back within one with 1:24 remaining, Pepperdine added a late penalty goal to bring the game to a close, 12-10.

Stelios Dalmaras played all but 1:29 in the cage and made 13 saves with four steals and an assist.
Finn Friedland did not allow a goal in his time in the cage.

The Lions will return home on Nov. 2 to host Santa Clara.
