MORAGA, CA – The Lions took down the Saint Mary's Gaels Saturday night, 66-48.
The Lions were led by
Alexis Mark, who had her fourth double-double of the season and achieved her 1000
th career point. She finished the game with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Three other Lions finished with double-digits in tonight's win.
Daylee Dunn had an impressive game, contributing with 15 points, including 5-8 three-pointers.
Da'Ja Hamilton and
Amaya Oliver also finished in double digits, scoring 14 and 10 points, respectively.
Right from the start, the Lions exhibited impressive energy. Following two consecutive baskets and pressuring the Gaels into a turnover, SMC had to take an early timeout to make adjustments. The Lions maintained a remarkable 64.3% field goal percentage in the first quarter, establishing a lead of 22-13 over the Gaels as they entered the second quarter.
The intensity stayed elevated during the second quarter as the Lions secured the initial eight points, taking a 30-13 lead and prompting the Gaels to call a timeout. LMU's defensive performance was exceptional throughout the quarter, limiting SMC to just nine points.
During the third quarter, Mark reached her 1000th point with a three-pointer, extending the Lions' lead to 20, with a score of 44-24. LMU outperformed SMC, scoring 15 points to SMC's 9, including a 3-6 performance from beyond the arc, while the Gaels were 0-3. By the end of the quarter, LMU held a 16-point lead, with a score of 38-22.
The largest lead of the game occurred in the fourth quarter when Dunn sank a three-pointer, increasing the margin to 25 points at 56-31. Despite the Gaels reducing the deficit by 13 points with 3:13 remaining, the Lions secured the victory in the end.
The Lions will face the Gonzaga Bulldogs in their upcoming game on Thursday, January 18th, at 7 PM in Gersten Pavilion.
