Lions Shine Against Wolf Pack for Third Straight Win

LOS ANGELES – Alice Santen, Kylie Dobbs and Jai Smith all scored for LMU to notch their third consecutive victory with a 3-1 win over Nevada at Sullivan Field on Thursday night.

A tight first half turned into a wide open second half.

Jennessa Groves came out firing from the opening whistle, notching a pair of shots in the first 20 minutes.

The Lions started piling pressure on in the 28th minute. Smith forced a save from the right wing after firing a low, right-footed effort and winning a corner for LMU.

Gabriella Marchal delivered a low-arcing cross from the ensuing corner that was met by Genevieve Watkins with a glancing header. With the ball bouncing around in the box, Groves swung a foot at it but the ball was scrambled away for a team save.

It was Watkins again in the 42nd minute, with a shot saved by the goalkeeper before Madison Werner's follow-up shot went wide.

Santen's breakthrough came in the 48th minute. Amber McCorkle recycled a perfect cross into the box from a cleared corner and found Santen all alone with just the goalkeeper to beat. Santen drove the ball in past the sliding goalkeeper to net for the fifth time in her Lions career.

The chaos erupted in the 69th minute.

Dobbs scored yet another beautiful goal with a beautiful left-footed effort that went into the bottom left corner of the goal. There was a jolt in the crowd and a two-goal lead.

24 seconds later, Nevada scored one themselves to cut the lead back to one.

LMU responded just 13 seconds later when Alex Hobbs fed Smith to push the lead back to two.

There were three goals in a 37 second spread.

The Lions notched 20 shots with 9 on target. They also forced ten corner kicks, including eight in the second half.

True freshman goalkeeper JJ Hoover continued to be steady in goal, notching her fourth win of the season and recording three saves.

The Lions are back in action on Sunday afternoon with a trip to La Jolla, Calif. to face the Tritons of UC San Diego. That match will begin at 2:00 p.m. (PT) and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
