LOS ANGELES – The LMU men's soccer team fell to Cal State Fullerton 1-0 Thursday evening at Sullivan field. The Titans converted a second-half penalty for the difference.
The Lions came out of the gate firing.
Ryan Kingsford took the opening kick and drove a right-footed shot from midfield to test the keeper right from kickoff.
Lewis Clutton fired a shot in the third minute after finding space behind the Titan backline. He took the ball wide in the box and fired a ball that the Titan goalkeeper claimed.
The Titan attacker fired an outside-the-box shot that dipped into the ground before Pomponi could claim it. He chested the ball directly into the path of another attacker and stonewalled his shot as well for a pair of saves. He ended the match with seven in total.
Kingsford was very active, accumulating five shots in the half.
LMU had a good chance at the end of the half. Marco Byers-Mora ripped a hard, low effort towards goal that was punched away by the opposing goalkeeper.
The second half started with some unluckiness by the home team as the Lions were called for a handball in the box. The Titans converted the ensuing penalty kick.
Bradyn Knutson found himself at the back post on a few corners in the second half, but could not convert.
LMU will be on the road Sunday, September 24 as they face off against Oregon State. Kickoff is slotted for 1:00 p.m. (PT) and will be available on stream.
