Dobbs Notches Third Goal in Mountain Showdown

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Kylie Dobbs netted her third goal of the season in the fourth minute of the match, but the Lions women's soccer team fell to Northern Arizona 3-1 on Sunday afternoon in Flagstaff, Ariz.

The Lions were dangerous from the very start and got their early goal from the lovely left foot of Dobbs. Jenessa Groves bruised the crossbar with a long-range effort. Dobbs was the first one to the rebound, and after collecting herself, fired home for the early lead.

The lead would be erased just a few minutes later after a clearance went awry and the Lumberjacks tapped in from short-range.

Dobbs tried her best to recreate her first two goals of her season with a long-distance effort in the 17th minute, but it was too high.

Olivia Winter had a deep driving run from her position in midfield that almost gave the Lions another goal. Dobbs slid a ball to the near post and Dobbs poked it across goal. It looked to be destined for the far corner, but was blocked by a Lumberjack defender and sent out of bounds.

Alice Santen also had a phenomenal effort after a corner kick was recycled and sent back in. The ball ended up at her feet, but the NAU goalkeeper was up to the task and made a spectacular short-range save.

NAU got their second goal on a penalty kick that was awarded after a handball was judged to have been inside the area.

They got their third from a long throw that was headed in.

Santen again found herself on the doorstep and was again turned away by the opposing goalkeeper in the second half.

Groves won a free kick in the 70th minute and took a low line-drive shot that dipped before the goalkeeper. The ball bounced into the ground and the goalkeeper fumbled the save before collecting it.

Amber McCorkle notched a shot on target with just under seven minutes left that forced a final save from the NAU goalkeeper.

LMU is back in action on Saturday night against San Diego in a nonconference matchup at Sullivan Field. The following match is their West Coast Conference Opener, also against the Toreros, this time in San Diego.
