Barrera Notches Second Pitcher of the Week Honor

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO – Diego Barrera has been named Pitcher of the Week for the West Coast Conference for the week ending on May 21.

The southpaw, pitching in his last game at Page Stadium, struck out 12 in a complete game effort. With the win, Barrera moved to 8-2 on the season with an ERA of 2.37.

Barrera has had a phenomenal final season on the bluff, moving into the top 10 in career ERA, career WHIP and career walks per nine innings.

Barrera cruised through the first five innings, facing the minimum and striking out eight. He allowed a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh innings and then clamped down in the eighth and ninth to preserve the victory. With the tying and go ahead runs on second and third and one out in the ninth, Barrera fanned the final two hitters to send the Lions into a frenzy.

With the victory, the Lions clinched the West Coast Conference title outright.

The Lions will be in action on Thursday, May 25 against the lowest remaining seed in the conference tournament.
