Seniors Play Final Game at Page and Earn Victory

LOS ANGELES – Diego Baqueiro recorded three more RBI, Robbie Ayers reached base five times, Owen Hackman threw five dominant innings and the Lions defeated Pacific 9-6 on Saturday afternoon to finish out the regular season with a sweep in Page Stadium.

The festivities started before first pitch today as LMU celebrated its seven graduating seniors. Diego Barrera, Cole Roberts, Benny Casillas, Jimmy Galicia, David Watson, Zach Kirby and Dylan Dennis were all honored for their contributions to the LMU baseball program.

A special moment before first pitch also occurred when Barrera and his brother Daniel, a Pacific pitcher, exchanged the lineups at home plate before the start of the game.

The Lions opened up the scoring early once again. LMU loaded the bases for Baqueiro with a pair of walks and a hit by pitch for Connor Blough, Sam Biller and Jared Thomas. Baqueiro sent the first pitch he saw careening into the left field corner for a stand up double and a pair of RBIs. Ayers followed up by lining a single into center field to plate Thomas and advance Baqueiro to third. Brett Zimmerman followed Ayers by grounding a ball up the middle that ricocheted off the pitcher's foot and found a hole for a single and an RBI.

Baqueiro once again produced a run in the second inning. Thomas drilled a two-out double to left center field before Baqueiro laced a single to the opposite field to score Thomas easily from second.

LMU added two more in the fourth to take a commanding seven-run lead. Blough led off the inning with a triple to right-center, diving in just ahead of the throw. After Biller walked, Thomas hit a sacrifice fly to add another run. Ayers followed with another single and then Dennis lined a double into the left-field corner to score another.

Roberts added to his career-best season with his 19th double of the season to open the bottom of the fifth inning. He advanced to third on a flyout by Casillas and then scored on a wild pitch. Blough walked and advanced to second on that same wild pitch would score when Thomas beat out a fielder's choice to score Blough from third.

Hackman left after the fifth inning, allowing four hits, one run and striking out five. Seamus Barrett, Michael Nunez, Logan Hurd and Watson all got one of the final four innings and allowed a combined four earned runs while striking out five.

The Lions will play Thursday in the WCC tournament against the lowest advancing seed.
