STANFORD, Calif. – LMU's office scored the two runs they needed in the bottom of the sixth inning to give LMU a win in their second game of the 2023 NCAA Regionals. The Lions won 2-1 as
Jenna Perez finished the final 4.2 innings of the game out of the pen to earn the win.
The Lions used three pitchers in Saturday's elimination game.
Paulina Johnson was given the start and pitched her way into the second inning without allowing a run.
Savannah Hooks relieved Johnson with an inherited runner in scoring position. After the runner advanced to third on a groundout, a flyball to deep center could have provided the game's first run if not for a double play from the arm of
Avery Francis sending a direct laser to
Izzy Jamgotchian ready to make the tag at home and end the inning on a double play.
Perez came into the game in relief in the third inning following her complete game performance on Friday afternoon. Perez pitched 4.2 innings but allowed the first three runners to reach in the fifth for the game's first run.
LMU's offense came to life in the bottom of the sixth inning. The first three batters reached base with a pair of walks followed by a single off the bat of
Val Pero. Following a strikeout,
Taylor Fitch doubled to center scoring both
Izzy Jamgotchian and Ari Jaurequi for the only runs LMU needed.
Six Lions recorded a hit in the game, with Jamgotchian reaching base three times with a double.
Perez closed out the game in the seventh with her fourth strikeout on her 92
nd pitch.
The Lions will quickly turnaround to play Florida for the second time in as many days at 8:00 PM on ESPN2.
