STANFORD, Calif. – LMU scored five runs over the last two innings, but despite the late offensive surge, the Lions fell short of a comeback bid and ended their season to Florida on Saturday night. The Lions scored the game's last five runs but suffered their second loss in the NCAA Regionals to the Gators, 10-6.
Florida jumped ahead early. WCC Pitcher of the Year
Jenna Perez allowed four early runs after making 257 pitches over the two days of Regionals. Lindsey O'Dell came in for the next 3.1 innings of relief, allowing four runs of her own.
The Lions got on the board with an RBI single off the bat of
Arianna Jaurequi in the bottom of the fourth.
Morgan DeBord scored LMU's first run after she singled earlier in the inning.
Savannah Hooks gave up a home run in the sixth inning to put LMU in jeopardy of being run ruled, but the Lions did not throw in the towel and go quietly into the night. In the bottom half of the inning,
Izzy Jamgotchian homered to left center, scoring
Sydney Poole, and making it a 10-3 game.
Logan Caymol pitched 1.2 hitless innings to close out the Gators in the sixth and seventh innings.
The first two Lions reached base in the seventh inning to extend the season.
Val Pero was hit by a pitch and
Taylor Fitch singled to put two on with nobody out. A hard hit ball to second by
Kat Hummer resulted in an unassisted double play to bring LMU to their last out.
Adele Braun and
Avery Francis then cleared the outfield wall with back-to-back home runs off Florida's starting pitcher Rylee Trlicek to bring the score to 10-6. The rally came up short as Trlicek forced a groundout on the next batter to end the game.
Seven different Lions recorded a hit in the game, while the pitching staff combined for four strikeouts.
LMU's season comes to a close following a second straight NCAA Tournament appearance and back-to-back West Coast Conference titles.
