SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO – After a weekend sweep of the Waves, the Lions swept the weekly awards awarded by the West Coast Conference. Sophomore outfielder Khadim Diaw earns the Lions' first Player of the Week win, while Zach Kirby wins his second (and the pitching staff's fifth) Pitcher of the Week award. 

 

Diaw has been on a tear since the midweek meeting with Cal State Fullerton, seeing his batting average rise from .281 to .321 today. He is currently on a 13-game hitting streak.  

 

This week, Diaw had a four-hit performance against Long Beach State on Monday, a majestic homerun on Saturday, and a laser throw from right to nab a would-be run scorer at the dish. 

 

His final slashline for the week was .391/.462/.609 with six RBIs, seven runs scored, and a stolen base to boot. He played solid defense in right field and notched the one outfield assist.  

 

Kirby's second Pitcher of the Week honor comes in the penultimate week of the season. His first award was on opening weekend when he had 12 strikeouts against San Jose State.  

 

Kirby showed a masterclass in pitching on Saturday, scattering three hits across eight strong innings and only walking one. He notched six strikeouts to take the team lead in the category.  

 

Kirby has been on a streak of his own, going at least six innings in seven straight starts. He has seen his ERA drop from 6.12 before the streak to 3.80 as of today. He has also struck out 50 batters during that same streak.  

 

The Lions wrapped up at least a share of the WCC Regular Season title on Sunday with a win and a Portland loss, with one more win guaranteeing the Lions an outright championship, something that has not been done at LMU since 1998.
