LOS ANGELES - The LMU Lions suffered a tough loss to the San Diego Toreros in a closely contested game that ultimately ended with a score of, 2-0, in favor of the Toreros. Both teams had their fair share of struggles at the plate, with neither team being able to get a hit until the third and fourth innings.
Jenna Perez had a great pitching performance, as did San Diego's Madison Earnshaw, resulting in a pitching duel that lasted until the very end. The game remained scoreless until the seventh inning, when the Toreros managed to hit a home run off a Perez pitch, bringing the score to, 2-0, in their favor.
Despite this setback, the Lions didn't give up and made a pitching change, bringing in
Savannah Hooks to replace Perez. Hooks managed to keep the Toreros at bay; and LMU was able to finish the top of the inning without giving up any more runs.
In the bottom of the inning,
Morgan DeBord managed to give the Lions some hope by hitting a double to right center on the first pitch. However, the next three batters were unable to get on base, and the game ended with a final score of 2-0.
Both teams showcased excellent defense throughout the game, resulting in a scoreless game for the majority of the matchup.
Izzy Jamgotchian led the Lions with nine putouts, while
Val Pero led with three assists.Â
The next match between the two teams is tomorrow at 2:00 PM at Smith Field.
