LOS ANGELES – The Lions finish WCC opening weekend with a, 3-0, sweep over the Pacific Tigers. In Saturday afternoon's match up, the Lions defeated the Tiger. 6-1.
In the second inning, the Tigers earned the first run of the game due to an error from the Lions. The one run lead didn't last long when the next inning
Morgan DeBord hit a home run sending
Kat Hummer and herself back to home plate.
In the next two innings Pacific had zero hits thanks to
Jenna Perez and her pitching performance for LMU.
At the top of the sixth inning,
Val Pero singled to right field then advanced two plates on a fielding error. Fortunately for the Lions, the bases were loaded when Pero singled leading Arianna Jauqueri,
Jasmine Sofowora and
Gabby Villa back home. The Lions now led the Tigers by four, 5-1.
The very next play, Pero earned a run when
Sydney Poole singled to left field. That would be the final run of the game and the Lions would win, 6-1.
The Lions finished with an OPS% of .867.
Taylor Fitch and Pero led the team in hits with two each while
Izzy Jamgotchian led with 11 putouts.
LMU's next game is Apr. 14 against the BYU Cougars at Smith Field.
