LOS ANGELES – The Lions took game one against their WCC rivals, BYU Cougars, 3-2 Friday afternoon.
LMU came out hot earning two runs early when
Izzy Jamgotchian hit a home run to right field gaining two RBI's.
In the fourth inning the Cougars started to make a comeback earning a run due to an LMU error. Immediately after, the Cougars earned another run from a wild pitch from
Jenna Perez.
With the Lions already having two outs at the bottom of the fourth, it was up to
Val Pero to deliver; and that's exactly what she did. On the fifth pitch, Pero sent the ball flying over the wall earning a RBI and giving the Lions back the lead, 3-2.
The defense by the Lions was incredible the last three innings of the game. In the sixth inning, BYU hit the ball towards right field, but
Sydney Poole was right there to make a phenomenal catch giving the Cougars their first out of the inning.
Perez only allowed one hit the last three innings and four the whole game. She also totaled for 12 strikeouts this game.
The Lions have now won their last five games and are, 4-0, in the conference play.
The LMU and BYU series will continue tomorrow, Apr. 15, with two games starting at 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM. Saturday will also be the Lions Strikeout Cancer games.
