LOS ANGELES – The Lions sweep the Saint Mary's Gaels thanks to a, 4-3, nailbiter win Saturday morning.
 
Arianna Jaurequi hit a home run early in the game sending Elisa Rosado back home and putting the Lions up, 2-0. Both teams would go run less in the in the third and fourth inning. Saint Mary's would remain with no runs until they doubled down the third base line and sending a Gael back to home plate. On the very next play, the Gaels scored again off a fielder's choice by LMU, followed by another fielder's choice that gave them their last run of the inning, putting the Lions behind 3-2.
 
A big play in the sixth inning came from freshman Avery Francis who made a fantastic defensive effort to give the Gaels their first out of the inning. The Lions' defense continued to impress throughout the inning, keeping the Gaels from adding any more runs to the scoreboard.
 
The Lions still trailed the Gaels by one at the bottom of the sixth. The game was looking to go the Gaels way until Jaurequi hit another ball flying past the wall and getting the solo homer. With the score tied, 3-3, and the Lions already having two out, extra innings were looming.
 
Fortunately, Adele Braun singled to left field getting the Lions closer to earning a run. Francis came in to pinch run for Braun; and eventually stole second and was able to advance to third on a throwing error from the Gaels. It would be a hit to center field from Sydney Poole to give Francis the unearned run and the Lions back the lead, 4-3.
 
In their final chance to tie or win the game, the Gaels faced Jenna Perez, who proved to be too much to handle. The Lions would win by a hair, 4-3.
 
Jaurequi led the Lions with three RBI and three hits.
 
The Lions next match up is next weekend, Apr. 29-30, against the Santa Clara Broncos.
