LOS ANGELES – The LMU baseball team fell to Gonzaga 7-2 in the final game of the three game conference series on Sunday afternoon.Â
Â
Owen Hackman got the start and was chased early after giving up six runs while only recording seven outs. Â
Â
The Lions bullpen stepped up to keep the game somewhat competitive.
Seamus Barrett came on in relief in the third inning. He allowed one run while striking out a pair in 3.1 innings of work.
Chaz McRoberts came on in the seventh and worked two scoreless innings and registered two strikeouts of his own.
Ryan Mullan worked a scoreless ninth.Â
Â
The Lions could only muster a pair of runs against Gonzaga on Sunday. Dylan Dennis knocked in a run with a groundout in the seventh and
Connor Blough got a run across in the ninth with a sacrifice fly.Â
Â
The game had a pair of defensive gems. Â
Â
Khadim Diaw made a spectacular sliding catch in the second inning on a sinking liner in right field. Dennis also snagged a liner at first base. The senior laid out to his right on a ball that was hit with ferocity. Â
Â
With the series victory, the Lions sit comfortably in first in the West Coast Conference, three games clear of a three-way tie for second place between Saint Mary's, Portland and Gonzaga. The Lions will face the Gales in a series next weekend but will face Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday night in Orange County at 6:00 p.m. (PT). Â
