Lions Finish 1-1 Against the Cougars

LOS ANGELES – The Lions went 1-1 Saturday against the BYU Cougars, but won the rivals series, 2-1.
 
Game one
 
The game opened with BYU hitting a home run and early in the first taking the lead, 1-0. The Lions quickly answered at the bottom of the inning when Morgan DeBord hit a home run gaining two RBIs.
 
At the top of the second inning, BYU immediately hit another home run making it, 2-2.
 
The Lions would gain the lead back when Arianna Jaurequi singled to second base gaining an RBI by sending Sydney Poole home.
 
The game was already looking promising for LMU, but the Lions extended their lead with a double to left center field by Avery Francis sending Adele Braun back home in the fourth. 
 
Later in the inning, Amanda Ta'amu singled to left field gaining an RBI thanks to Francis. 
 
Jenna Perez didn't allow any hits the last four innings and struck out three Cougars in the seventh to give LMU the go ahead win. The Lions defeated the Cougars, 5-2.
 
Poole and DeBord led with three hits each. Izzy Jamgotchian led with eight putouts while Jaurequi followed with six.
 
Game two
 
The first runs of the game for both teams came in the second inning. Poole singled to second base advancing Val Pero back to home plate. In the third inning LMU gained the lead by one when DeBord scored on a wild pitch making the score, 2-1. 
 
In the fifth inning, BYU earned another run from a wild pitch by Lindsay O'Dell tying the score, 2-2.  
 
The Lions introduced Savannah Hooks to the game to relieve O'Dell in hopes to stop the Cougars, but unfortunately BYU hit a home run gaining three RBI's and taking the game from the Lions, 5-2.
 
O'Dell finished with four strikeouts and facing 21 batters. Lilliana Thomas and Jamgotchian led the team with seven putouts.
 
The Lions next game is Saturday, Apr. 22, against the Saint Mary Gaels starting at 12:00 PM.
