Lions Split in Day One of Judi Garman Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FULLERTON, CA – The LMU Lions finished with a split on day one of the Judi Garman Classic.

In game one the Lions fell to No. 15 LSU, 6-5.

At the top of the first inning, both Morgan DeBord and Taylor Fitch hit a home run back-to-back giving the Lions a two-point edge. LMU scored another run after Jasmine Sofowora singling to center field sending Kat Hummer home.

The Lion's defense was remarkable the next two innings leaving the Tigers run less. LMU had no answer for Lindsay O'Dell's pitching performance.

The Lions next run came in the fourth innings when Sydney Poole singled through the right-side sending Gabby Villa home for the run.

It was in the fifth inning when the Tigers started to make a comeback. At the bottom of the inning LSU homered gaining two RBI making the score, 4-2, with the Lions still being up.

LSU scored another four runs in the following inning taking the lead from LMU, 6-4.

The Lions had one more chance to try and regain the lead over the Tigers. With LMU already having two outs, it was important they hit the ball in play. Amanda Ta'amu was the next player at bat, and she singled to center field gaining an RBI. The Lions only trailed by one run, but unfortunately fouled out and lost the game, 6-5.

In game two both LMU and UCF had zero runs for the first three innings. At the top of the fourth is when the scoreboard got some action. Ta'amu flied out to center field giving gaining an RBI by sending DeBord home for the unearned run. The Knights followed with scoring two runs at the bottom of the inning leading the Lions, 2-1.

In the next two innings, LMU would score four more runs while UCF scored nothing. At the top of the seventh inning is when LMU secured the win scoring three runs thanks to the efforts from Fitch, Izzy Jamgotchian, Sofowora and Gabby Villa. The Lions would win the game, 8-2.

The Lions next two games are Mar. 4 against Seattle University and the University of Oregon.
