LOS ANGELES – Jenna Perez pitched a career high, 15 strikeouts, in a 6-0 win against the South Dakota Coyotes Monday afternoon.
 
Great pitching from both teams kept the score, 0-0, for the first two innings. It was in the third inning when Morgan DeBord reached on a fielding error giving the Lions an unearned run by Avery Francis.
 
With DeBord on the field, it was up to Jasmine Sofowora to send DeBord home and that's exactly what she did. With getting a hit and doubling to right center, DeBord was able to return to home plate giving the Lions another run for the inning. LMU led, 2-0.
 
The top of the fourth went by swiftly thanks to the defensive effort of the Lions. At the bottom, Ariana Jaurequi sent the ball flying past the wall recording her first home run of the season and giving the Lions another run.
 
The next two innings the Coyotes didn't score any runs thanks to Perez. 
 
At the bottom of the sixth innings, Madalie Gomez would score from a single to right center hit by Jaurequi. The Lions now lead the Coyotes, 4-0.
 
Two hitters later, Gabby Villa would send the ball past left field sending Jaurequi and Kat Hummer back home giving LMU their last two runs of the game and the win, 6-0.
 
Izzy Jamgotchian led both teams with 15 putouts.
 
The Lions next game will be Friday against the Fresno State Bulldogs at Smith Field starting at 12 PM.
