Lions Split Doubleheader against Raiders and Bears

LOS ANGELES – The Lions finished Sunday's doubleheader match ups in a 1-1 split against the Colgate Raiders and Brown Bears.

In the first game the Lions fell to the Raiders, 3-1.

In the first three innings both the Lions and Raiders were run-less due to great defense from both sides. The Raiders also had zero hits in those three innings while Lindsay O'Dell pitched from the hill.

The first runs of the game came in the fourth innings when Colgate hit a home run and gaining two RBI. In the fifth inning Jenna Perez came in to relieve O'Dell in hopes of stopping Colgate, but a wild pitch by Perez would send a Raider back home.

At the bottom of the inning Jasmine Sofowora would hit a homerun to give the Lions their only run of the game. That would be the only run of the game for the Lions, making the final score, 3-1.

In game two, the Lions swept the Bears, 9-0.

In the first inning, Sofowora doubled to right center sending Madalie Gomez back home. Quickly after Izzy Jamgotchian singled sending the ball to right field giving the Lions another run by Sofowora.

LMU earned their most runs in the second inning thanks to Ariana Jaurequi, Sydney Poole and Gabby Villa. The Lions led the Bears by five going into the sixth inning, 5-0.

During the next two innings, the Lions would earn a total of four more runs leading the Bears by nine. Brown had one more chance in the fifth inning to try to get on the board, but LMU defense was incredible. The Lions left the Bears, once again, run-less in the fifth inning and ending the game right then and there.

The Lions next game is tomorrow against the Coyotes of South Dakota at 2 PM at Smith Field.
