LOS ANGELES – David Watson was the final pitcher of a phenomenal trio against Vanderbilt, but the Lions fell 2-0 at Hawkins Field in Nashville, Tenn. Â
Â
Watson got three ground balls and has gone scoreless in his previous three outings. Â
Â
Jimmy Galicia pitched the seventh and also got through unscathed.Â
Â
Zach Kirby got the start on the hill and allowed a pair of runs in the third inning but was otherwise very effective. The East Tennessee State transfer went six innings, allowed the two runs, struck out 4 and allowed only three hits. Â
Â
Connor Blough returned to the lineup and notched a pair of hits and kept the Lions alive in the bottom of the ninth with a two-out hit by pitch. Â
Â
Â
Weiss provided the highlight of the afternoon with a leaping catch along the high wall in left field. With one out and runners on first and second, Weiss tracked back to the wall and used every inch of his vertical to make a spectacular grab while crashing into the wall. He got up and fired a strike back into second to hold runners where they were.Â
Â
The series finale will be Sunday, Mar. 12 at 11:00 a.m. (PT). The Lions will also play UC Santa Barbara on Monday after the game was rescheduled from Tuesday. That will be played at 6:00 p.m. at Page Stadium.Â
