SAN DIEGO, CA – The Lions took a tough, 9-4, loss to the No. 24 Oregon Ducks Saturday afternoon on day two of the SDSU Tournament.
In the first inning
Morgan DeBord tripled to left center getting the Lions on first base. A hit by
Izzy Jamgotchian would send DeBord home and giving the LMU the lead.
At the bottom of the inning, Oregon hit two homeruns advancing three of their players back home and taking the lead, 3-1.
The Ducks scored five more of their runs in the second and third inning still leading the Lions, 8-1.
The Lions started to gain momentum in the fourth inning when
Taylor Fitch doubled to center field advancing Liliana Thomas to third and sending
Amanda Ta'amu back home.
The Ducks brought in a new pitcher to try and stop LMU, but that wouldn't tame the Lions.
Avery Francis quickly followed with a double to left field giving the Lions two runs from Fitch and Thomas making the score, 8-4.
Oregon would hit a solo home run at the bottom of the inning to give the Ducks their final run and close out the game, 9-4.
The Lions will continue to compete in the SDSU Tournament tomorrow, Feb. 19, as they face, once again, the Utah Valley Wolverines and the UC Riverside Highlanders.
