LOS ANGELES - The Lions split a double header on Sunday, falling to No. 17 Washington before defeating Cal State Bakersfield.
The Lions started off the first game strong with
Sydney Poole scoring on a
Morgan DeBord double to deep right. Two batters later,
Taylor Fitch botched an RBI single for a 2-0 lead.
The Huskies rallied back in the third inning, taking a 4-2 lead. They would add another in the seventh to mark the final tally, 5-2.
In the afternoon, the Lions bested the Roadrunners, 8-0, behind a dominant pitching performance from
Jessica Hubbard. The sophomore notched a five inning no-hitter, allowing only a pair of base runners on a walk and an error. She punched out nine.
She was staked to an early lead when Poole scored on a DeBord groundout in the bottom of the first.
DeBord would not be done there. The senior crushed a two-run shot in the bottom of the third, before following up with a grand slam. She finished with a whopping seven RBI.
Madison Askins would add the eighth run with an pinch-hit RBI double in the fifth to end the game.
Up next for the Lions is the San Diego State University Tournament where they will take on the Utah Valley State Wolverines, Feb. 17, and the SDSU Aztecs Feb. 18.
