LOS ANGELES – The LMU women's team fell to the visiting Saint Mary's Gaels 3-0 on Saturday night at Sullivan Field.
LMU celebrated 13 graduating seniors with a prematch ceremony. The Lions honored the contributions of
Bella Beltran,
Gabriella Marchal,
Madison Werner,
Madison Thomas,
Kelsey Wong,
McKenna Lutzker,
Ashley Kobylinski,
Jai Smith,
Jennessa Groves, Sam Nieto,
Alex Hobbs,
Amber McCorkle and
Genevieve Watkins. Each senior got to walk their family in front of the crowd and received a warm ovation from the Lions faithful.
The Lions saw graduate goalkeeper Ellie Sommers make a handful of spectacular acrobatic saves during the match. She made six saves, three of them were off the top shelf.
Hobbs celebrated senior day by being a massive threat on the wing. She had the biggest threat in the first half with a shot on target in the 25th minute.
The Gaels scored a goal with a few minutes left in the first half to take a lead into the locker room.
Saint Mary's earned a penalty kick in the 64th minute and converted to double their advantage.
Groves notched a shot on target in the 67th minute to mark her 18th shot on target of the season.
The Gaels scored a third in the 83rd minute to mark the final tally.
The LMU women's soccer team would like to thank all the fans that came out and supported during the 2023 season. The Lions look forward to seeing the fans out at Sullivan Field in 2024.
