PROVO, UT – In a hard-fought game on Saturday afternoon, LMU and the BYU Cougars played a tightly contested match-up, ultimately concluding with the Cougars securing a 74-58 victory.
 
The Lions came out strong in the initial minutes of the game, securing the first five points. LMU enjoyed their largest lead at 10-4, thanks to Ella Wedin's three-pointer. However, after a media timeout, the Lions experienced a loss of momentum, allowing BYU to embark on a 5-0 run and narrowing the gap to just one point. Even though Daylee Dunn's drained a three-pointer with 2:40 remaining, the Cougars closed the second quarter with an 8-0 run, taking the lead at 17-13.
 
In the second quarter, Amaya Oliver's layup put the Lions ahead. Subsequent plays, including a three-pointer by Nicole Rodriguez, a significant block by Oliver, and another made layup by Oliver, restored LMU's lead at 20-19. The Lions maintained their advantage until BYU notched five consecutive points, tying the score. By the end of the quarter, BYU led 35-30.
 
After halftime, LMU quickly scored four points, trailing by only one. The deficit fluctuated but never exceeded four points until BYU's three-pointer extended their lead to seven. The Cougars continued to dominate, securing a 12-point lead by the end of the third quarter at 54-42. Despite a valiant effort in the fourth quarter, the Lions couldn't recover, and the Cougars ultimately secured the victory with a final score of 74-58.
 
Oliver led the Lions with 10 points, followed by nine points each from Dunn and Sydney Gandy.
 
The Lions next game is Nov. 30 at 6:00 PM against the Denver Pioneers in Gersten Pavilion.
