Lions Win by 22 Behind a Combined 41 from Hill and Harris

LOS ANGELES – LMU men's basketball led wire-to-wire in Tuesday night's 22-point win over Jackson State. The Lions opened the game with six unanswered points and never surrendered the lead in the 88-66 win.

Justin Wright hit a three for the game's first field goal as LMU took an early 6-0 lead.

LMU went on a 7-0 run to push ahead 15-5 with 12:58 on the clock. Dominick Harris scored the last five points of that run and finished with 18 points.

After the Tigers pulled within three, the Lions rattled off 10 unanswered points to go back up double-digits. The run was part of a larger 16-2 run where Jackson State did not score a field goal for over seven minutes.

The lead grew to as large as 18 points in the first half as Will Johnston hit a three and Rick Issanza dunked the ball with less than two minutes to play. The Lions carried a 16-point lead into the half after holding the Tigers to 24 points.

LMU held Jackson State to 0-for-8 from three in the first half and just 27 percent overall.

The visitors scored seven of the first nine points of the second half and cut it down to single digits within five minutes. The Lions used an 8-0 run as Justice Hill and Johnston each knocked down threes to build the lead back up to 17 points.

The Tigers kept fighting and used a 14-1 run to pull within four, 56-52, with 10:26 to play before Dominick Harris scored the first five points of a 15-2 run to grow the lead back to 17. Hill and Merkviladze combined for the remaining 10 points of that run.

Hill and Harris hit back-to-back threes to build up a 79-56 lead. Hill added two more threes in the final minute to put his total at 23 points and eight assists for the night.

Keli Leaupepe finished with a team-high 12 rebounds to go along with his 6-for-6 night from the free throw line. Lars Thiemann grabbed his most rebounds as a Lion and finished with 10 boards.

Johnston cracked double-digit scoring for the third consecutive game leading the bench unit to a 38-12 advantage over Jackson State's reserves.

The Lions will leave Gersten Pavilion for the first time this season, and will play three games over three days in the Cayman Islands Classic on Nov. 19-21.
