SAN FRANCISCO –
Amethyst Harper stuffed the stat sheet,
Kari Geissberger recorded 14 kills, and the Lions volleyball team hit .352 as a team to sweep San Francisco 3-0 on Saturday afternoon in San Francisco, Calif.
Harper was all over the court for the Lions, recording 11 kills while hitting .474, recording a pair of service aces, netting five total blocks, and chipping in six digs.
The Lions defense forced the Dons into a .163 hitting percentage as a team. LMU's defense has a few national rankings to show how strong they have been. The Lions are the top team in the WCC and 13
th in the country with opponents hitting a combined .152. The Lions also rank first in the WCC and fifth overall with 2.94 blocks per set.
Jacquelyn Moore continued her strong play, recording three block assists and six kills while hitting .444. She is fourth in the country with a .466 hitting percentage.
FIRST SET
The Lions gained control after
Maddie Boerstra was rotated into service. LMU ripped off six points in a row, with Boerstra recording three of her four aces of the set during the run.
The Lions controlled the set from that point on, including another run of seven straight points to finish the set.
Tyler Alcorn recorded the deciding point on a kill set up by
Mia Schafer.
SECOND SET
The Dons won the first three points of the second set, but the Lions roared back to tie things at eight after a
Michelle Shaffer solo block.
The Dons would not go away in the second set, however, and would open up a three-point advantage at 20-17.
Moore would start a three-point run with a kill followed by a pair of errors by the Dons to knot the set at 20.
The teams would trade points including a set point save by the Dons before the Lions won two in a row to finish the set off 27-25.
THIRD SET
The Dons would strike fast with three of the first four points, but that would mark the final lead of the match for San Francisco.
The Lions would take a 4-3 lead and never trailed the rest of the way to cruise to a 25-20 victory in the third set to complete the sweep.
LMU used a four-point and five-point run to get out to an uncatchable lead. Shaffer started the first run with a kill and recorded an ace to give the Lions a six-point lead.
Moore would start the second of the runs with a kill and
Mia Schafer recorded the fifth point with a service ace. It was her 20
th ace of the season.
The Lions have won four in a row and are sitting in third place in the West Coast Conference with a 5-1 conference record.

The Lions will be home for the next three matches, starting with the Lions facing San Diego on Oct. 12 back at Gersten Pavilion. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
