LOS ANGELES – Adam Davie scored in the 81st minute and the LMU men's soccer team drew 1-1 with UC Riverside at Sullivan Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Lions had an opportunity in the 7
th minute as
Derek Goodman was played in down the left wing. He cut back onto his right foot and fired a curling shot that was blocked by a defender. The ball fell to Davie who was unable to get solid contact onto it but did nick it enough to force the goalkeeper into a sprawling save. The ball bounced off the crossbar and was cleared.
The Highlanders went ahead in the 13th minute after some nifty interplay.
Mitchell Wilson collected a double save in the 35th minute and finished the match with six saves.
LMU looked like a different team after the break.
Callum Stretch almost found the scoresheet in the 54th minute after redirecting a corner on goal. The goalkeeper saved the initial shot and followed with another save on Christian Ortiz's glancing effort.
Head coach Kyle Schmid made four substitutions in the 79th minute and the goal came very soon after.
Goodman played a through ball to Ortiz, who slid an inviting ball into the box where Dylan Shockey connected with it. Whether it was a shot or a pass, it went right to Davie who calmly tapped it in for his fifth tally of the season.
The Lions will wrap up their tour of the Big West Conference on Thursday night away to UC Irvine. The match will begin at 7 p.m. in Irvine, Calif.
