Lions Defeat The Beach In Four

LOS ANGELES – LMU women's volleyball came out with the win on Friday night's official home opener against Long Beach State.
 
LMU opened the match with two points followed by three unanswered points from LBSU making it, 3-2. The Lions went on a four-point streak, with three of those points being kills from Kari Geissberger. LMU took the lead by one, 10-9.
 
The Beach would go on another run and regain the lead from the Lions, 17-15. A double block from Rose Booth and Phoebe Awoleye would tie up the score to 21-21. LMU went on another three-point streak and took the set by two, 26-24.
 
Set two started with a 3-0 run from The Beach. Thanks to a kill by Rose Booth, from Sam Hastings, the Lions decreased the lead and were only down one, 5-4. LMU would then go on a three unanswered point streak to tie with The Beach, 8-8. 
 
Both teams went on multiple two-point streaks throughout the set, but LBSU eventually took the lead, 20-16. They would also win the second set, 25-21.
 
During the third set, the Lions would get on the board first.  A kill by Jacquelyn Moore, from Isabella Bareford, shifted the momentum for LMU. The Lions would go on a 3-0 run leading the The Beach, 5-3. LBSU answered back with three points of their own followed by another 2-0 run taking the lead back, 8-6.
 
Midway through the set the Lions had three back-to-back kills from Awoleye and Geissberger making it 10-10. The Lions went on another three-point streak, but trailed The Beach, 15-14. The end of the match was tight, but LMU reclaimed the lead by one point, 22-21, and took the set, 28-26.
 
Set four started off with The Beach leading the Lions, 4-1. The lead didn't last long for The Beach though. LMU scored four straight points making it, 6-5. Another 3-0 run would extend the lead for the Lions, 11-8.
 
Late in the set LBSU had three unanswered points for LMU, 20-19. The Lions went on two 2-0 runs to recover the lead and won the match, 25-23, and the game, 3-1.
 
The Lions will face off against LBSU again, Sept. 17, in Long Beach, CA.
