LMU Scores Over 20 Goals Again as Team Moves to 5-0

SANGER, Calif. – The 15th-ranked LMU men's water polo team took a 5-0 lead and never looked back to remain undefeated and knock off Fresno Pacific on Thursday afternoon. The Lions topped the Sunbirds, 23-8.

The Lions scored all six goals of the first quarter, by six different players. Joseph Cavazos, Tyler Harvey, and Kade Margain all scored within a minute of each other in the first quarter, before Alex Marlow and Aden Mina pushed it to an 5-0 lead. FPU scored their first of the game at the 52 second mark, before Jonny Rimlinger scored at 43 seconds and Blazo Mitrovic scored as time expired.

Marlow opened the second quarter with a powerplay goal. After the Sunbirds added one back, Mitrovic and Marlow made it 11-2. The Lions took a 13-4 lead into intermission as both Augie Renezeder and Dimitriy Kobets added goals.

The All-American duo of Mitrovic and David Carrasco opened the second half with a goal each to expand the lead to double-digits, and both scored again later in the period. Margain and Mina each scored their second goals of the game to close out the third quarter.

Jack Dunbar scored LMU's 20th goal of the game with 4:58 on the clock in the fourth. Rimlinger tripled the game score to make it 21-7, and Dunbar and Kobets closed out the scoring in the final two minutes to bring the game final.

Finn Friedland and Can Cagler split time in the cage. Friedland made two saves with two steals, and Cagler made three saves with an assist.

The Lions will have two non-conference games over the weekend against top 10 opponents. LMU will travel to Malibu on Saturday morning to face #9 Pepperdine before hosting #4 Stanford on Sunday morning at Burns Recreation Center.
