RIVERSIDE, Calif. – LMU women's water polo picked up a 3-0 lead and never looked back on Thursday night in the Golden Coast Conference game at California Baptist. The Lions took the game, 15-10, on a hot night in Riverside.
Ruth Arino Ruiz,
Mollie Williams, and
Kelsey Snelgar opened the game with goals to push LMU ahead 3-0. After CBU scored the next two, Williams closed out the period with a goal with 19 seconds left.
The Lions scored all three goals of the second quarter, expanding the lead to 7-2.
Marialena Seletopoulou opened the period with a goal, as
Mei Vilanova followed, and Williams scored in the final minute.
Arino Ruiz increased the lead to 8-2 in the third before CBU added one back.
Yanah Gerber scored on a powerplay and Seletopoulou put LMU at double digits. The Lancers scored the next two before
Alena Sanchez closed out the third quarter.
California Baptist scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter before Arino Ruiz and
Isabella Barajas scored back-to-back goals to double up the Lancers 14-7. CBU finished with three of the final four goals with
Alexandra Akritidou scoring for the Lions with 34 seconds on the game clock.
Madison Davis made 10 saves in her 32 minutes in the cage.
The Lions will return home on Saturday for another conference game, hosting Fresno State at 11:00 AM.
