SAN DIEGO– The Loyola Marymount University softball team (33-14) swept the San Diego Torero's in a double header on Saturday afternoon, winning game one convincingly 7-0, while sneaking in on the Toreros in game two, 2-1. Â
In the third inning of game 1, the Lions got off to a great start by scoring the first run of the game which saw Jasmine Sofowora help her team out.  Adding to the momentum, Payton Angulo increased the lead with an RBI double which helped Alyssa Daniell, and Madalie Gomez score to increase the lead.  Â
In the sixth inning, Megan Dedrick doubled down towards left field to get an RBI and assist Sydney Poole to home plate.Â
The Lions finished the game 1 with fifteen total hits, and seven runs finishing the game with a statement. Â
In Game 2, the Lions were able to close out a tight game against San Diego.Â
The Lions got right to business in the top of the first inning with Morgan DeBord darting an RBI double to left field to bring in Sydney Poole.
After the Toreros tied the game up in the bottom of the first, the two teams reached a stalemate until the fourth inning when Alyssa Daniell recorded her sixth homerun of the season and an RBI which saw Morgan DeBord add to the score line.Â
In the seventh inning, the Lions got to work late after a few errors allowed runners on base, and
Megan Dedrick reached on a throwing error allowing
Alyssa Daniell, and
Andrea Gonzalez to increase the lead.
Georgia Blair then hit a line drive and received her 27th RBI of the season which saw
Morgan DeBord run past home plate.
USD was not able to respond in the bottom of the seventh allowing the Lions to take the WCC series win.Â
LMUÂ looks to sweep the Toreros in Game 3 tomorrow at USD Softball Complex. The first pitch is set for 12:00 p.m. PST.
